The cookbook isn't just recipes but tips about eating good food. Chapter 2 is called Feeding Your Body, you can imagine what this chapter is about. You got it. What to eat! Whole Foods, Balanced Meals that include Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Good Carbs (from whole foods!), Proteins, Fats (yes, we need them but we need the right kind of fat.) and WATER. (Sometimes we forget just how important water can be. In reality we should drink 1/2 our body weight in ounces of water. If you weigh 150, that's 75 ounces of water a day. This includes other liquids too though)
I really loved that she included the First 6 Weeks chapter also. What to have on hand in your pantry, freezer, and refrigerator AND why you should have them. Not only this but a weekly grocery must haves.
The Well Rounded Pregnancy Cookbook is the only cookbook that acknowledges pregnant women's fickle appetites and lets you customize dishes to suit your moods. Nearly every recipe can be adapted to fit how you feel whether you're:
Feeling Green {Provides recipes suggestions to help you make it through the bouts of morning sickness and sudden food aversions}
Feeling Full {Shows you how to incorporate additional nutrients and hold off on empty calories.}
Feeling Food {Honors your cravings without giving up the nutrients you need to keep on track and stay healthy.}
Feeling Good {Presents the optimal eating plan, with nutritionally sound recipes at the heat of a healthy diet.}
I have been cooking with this cookbook for awhile now. A few of my favorite recipes are the breakfast smoothies!!, Hummus, Tuna Salad (although without the pickles... I know I know pregnant women love pickles, but I don't! LOL,) Miso Soup (oh how I love Miso soup), Mama's Turkey Meatballs, Balsamic and Herb Roasted Chicken... I also tried the Creamy Asparagus Soup, for this one I only wished I would have creamed/pureed it half way, I would have like to have more chunks of asparagus and potatoes... other than that I really loved the flavor. Very asparagusy! If you love asparagus, this is the soup for you. And lets not forget the Desserts. Not that anyone would.. the Rich Chocolate Brownies are delish! And the Devilish Cupcakes... can you tell I LOVE chocolate? My husband is positive most women would perish without it. I agree. :) But I also love Jam Dot cookies.. and can't wait to try the Two Lemon Cookies recipe, my husband is a huge lemony guy.
These are but a few, I want to try the roasted sweet potato one.. this one may be perfect for the holidays!
I also love how some recipes include some great information and tips. For instance, the asparagus soup includes some information about how asparagus has more folate (folic acid) than 4 cups of raw spinach! This makes it great for early stages of pregnancy or trying to conceive because folic acid is essential for baby's spine development.
Overall, I think this book is fantastic is so many ways. Definitely something I will keep not only for pregnancy and nursing but beyond. I want my family to eat well, this book helps do just that.
Give your baby a healthy start with 100 recipes that adapt to fit how you feel.
Buy It!! You can buy this great cookbook for around $16.95 in book stores or online at Amazon for about $12.
