Although, my children don't have "trouble" sleeping, somedays are a fight.
especially during naptime!
I found this book a very easy read. It's very informative without being overpowering and boring. I have always been interested in sleep, my father has sleep problems and has been studied a few times. It's all fasinating. Now this doesn't mean I am a pro by any means... I still have my far share of struggles when it comes to sleep. Nap time is never easy in my house. I have struggled with it since I first had my daughter 3 years ago.
The author, Elizabeth Pantley, has so many solutions to {I would imagine} anyone's problem with sleeping and naps. Solutions that actually work!
I found it funny with her solution to the problem : *Not Tired*.. that I tended to get them over anxious and more awake! Grr.. But I added a little beditme routine; dimming lights, reading, doing a soft sleeping activity actually helps make the child relax with actually making the child relax!
I don't have a newborn right now, but I found this book would be extremely helpful and gave me some great ideas for newborns! Especially when it comes to nursing. I am one of those women who is a human pacifier. {my son would not take a pacifier} Though I don't exactly like it, I could get some sleep so I didn't mind too much. But it's not something I hope to continue doing.
I also found an interesting topic while reading.. "Hush Hour" or Quiet Time=Nap Substitute. When my daughter was 2 years old she refused to take naps, and when she did she would wake up in the worst mood. I couldn't bare it any longer and boycotted naps for her.
After reading this important part of the book for me.. I realized I could get somewhat of a break when tending my kids, while my son sleeps. This has been amazing! Truly. I have found that my daughter actually acts better when she has Hush Hour. And I have found that I enjoy it too. Everyday I feel a rush of some sort, if it's to dance or play groups, errands and whatnot.. my children don't always get to rest either. It really is a perfect nap substitute.
This book has tons of information.. from swaddling to schedules, the actual importance of sleep and the amount of hours needed to create peace and happiness. For everyone. It even has a chapter on colic care and When to call a doctor for sleep disorders.
This was apart of Family Review Network and the Author of The No-Cry Nap Solution: Elizabeth Pantley {She has other books as well}
